NFL coaching rumors: Eagles expected to aggressively pursue Adam Gase

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to pursue Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase in their search for a new head coach, according to a report from ProFootballTalk. Mike Florio also notes that the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns are also expected to be in the running.

Gase is arguably one of the most desirable candidates on the market. Here's what we wrote about him earlier this week:

The 37-year-old Gase has drawn interest as a head coaching candidate in recent years due to his work with Peyton Manning in Denver. Gase is now the Bears' offensive coordinator and he's seemingly done a nice job working with Jay Cutler. Chicago's offense ranks 10th overall by Football Outsiders.

Gase's ability to get the best out of his quarterbacks makes him a highly attractive option. It remains to be seen how Philadelphia's quarterback situation plays out. Sam Bradford is scheduled to be a free agent after this season. Regardless of whether Bradford is back or not, the team could look to address the position in the 2016 NFL Draft.

In theory, the Eagles can interview and hire Gase as soon as Monday now that the Birds have fulfilled their Rooney Rule requirement by interviewing Duce Staley. In reality, it might take a little longer than that for the Eagles to find their next head coach.
