Former Philadelphia Chip Kelly is no longer unemployed. The San Francisco 49ers have hired him to be their next head coach, according to an official announcement from the team.

The 49ers were reportedly down to picking between Kelly and former Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan. The 49ers picked Kelly.
San Francisco was the only team to interview Kelly (according to public knowledge, at least). It makes sense he landed there because he reunites with former Eagles vice president of player personnel Tom Gamble.
Kelly was fired by the Eagles prior to Week 17 of the 2015 season. The Eagles went 26-21 in his three years as head coach but his poor personnel moves and his failure to connect with players got him fired.
Kelly won't have personnel control in San Francisco, which isn't a surprise:
Trent Baalke will maintain his power as the GM in charge of personnel. For the #49ers, Chip Kelly will just coach. Which is good.

The Eagles will host the 49ers at home during the 2017 season.
