NFL rumors: Eagles coaching search might be over soon

The Philadelphia Eagles' head coaching search might be coming to an end. NFL insider Jason La Canfora reports he "would not be surprised at all" to see the Eagles (along with the New York Giants) make their hire in the "next 24-48 hours." This report adds up with the notion that the Eagles are done interviewing candidates.

Assuming La Canfora is right and there are no mystery candidates lurking out there, the Eagles next head coach will be one of the following five candidates: Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson, interim Eagles head coach Pat Shurmur, or Eagles running back coach Duce Staley.

For what it's worth, ESPN insider Adam Schefter senses McAdoo is the front-runner for the job, but he seemed less than certain.

Some will point out that La Canfora's report means that Pederson can't be the guy since he can't be officially hired until the Chiefs are eliminated from the playoffs. That might be true, but consider former Seahawks defensive coordinatnor Dan Quinn was unofficially reported to be the Falcons' head coach last year before Seattle was eliminated. So ...  maybe don't rule out Pederson just yet.

This Eagles coaching search hasn't been very inspiring, so there's a decent chance the announcement won't be very exciting. But at least the suspense, if you can call it that, will be over.
