The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report in advance of their Week 17 game against the New York Giants. One more meaningless game and then the season is over. It can't come soon enough.
To no surprise, the following three players have been ruled out: starting cornerback Byron Maxwell, starting nose tackle Bennie Logan, and special teams contributor Seyi Ajirotutu. None of these players were able to practice this week. Second year cornerback Jaylen Watkins, who was limited in practice on Thursday, has been ruled questionable to play.
With Maxwell out, Eric Rowe and E.J. Biggers are likely going to start on the outside. They're going to have their hands full trying to cover Odell Beckham Jr. If Watkins can suit up, he'll play on the outside when Biggers shifts to the nickel cornerback position. If Watkins can't go, perhaps undrafted rookie free agent Denzel Rice will get some playing time.
Logan being out means Beau Allen will start at nose tackle once again. The team can also use Cedric Thornton and Fletcher Cox on the inside in some looks. Taylor Hart and Brandon Bair should get their fair share of playing time at defensive end.
Jonathan Krause will likely be kept active with Ajirotutu out.
The Eagles should really place Maxwell/Logan/Ajirotutu on injured reserve to free up three roster spots. The team could look to promote their own scout team players or try to steal someone off another club's practice squad. Otherwise these guys are just wasting roster space at this point.
