Chip Kelly's overhaul has upgraded Eagles across the board - CSN Philly
It’s impossible to look at this final roster and not marvel at Chip Kelly’s handiwork as GM. Forget Chip the coach for a moment. Let’s talk about Chip the general manager. How do you cut ties with Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, Trent Cole, Nick Foles and Evan Mathis –- five Pro Bowlers –- not to mention Todd Herremans, Brandon Boykin, Chris Polk and everybody else who was shown the door and come back with a better team? Because that’s what I see. More talent. More players who fit Kelly’s culture in the locker room. A superior coaching staff. More depth. Way more depth. A team better equipped for a deep postseason run than Kelly’s first two teams.
Eagles plan to use variety of players in slot corner role - PhillyVoice
When asked if he knew what the Eagles would be doing at the slot corner spot, Chip Kelly said succinctly to reporters, "It depends on who we’re playing." That may sound like a quick non-answer, but it is something that Bill Davis talked about at a little more length after the final preseason game against the Jets.
Practice Squad is Out - Iggles Blitz
Mostert and Mihalik are my favorite players on the list. I think Mihalik could develop into a starting DL down the road. Remember that Cedric Thornton spent the 2011 season on the PS. He needed time to develop and adjust to the NFL. Mihalik has a great frame, but must add bulk and get stronger. He is a great fit for the Eagles scheme so this is the ideal scenario for him. Mostert is an explosive athlete who also needs to get bigger and stronger. He needs to develop positional skills (such as blocking). Mostert has potential as a receiver, but needs time with the JUGS machine. He had some drops this summer that should be eliminated. He would also help his cause if he could learn to return punts
Get ready for Philadelphia Eagles season with new football gear - BGN
Football season is almost here! This has to be one of the most anticipated Philadelphia Eagles seasons in recent history. It was a crazy offseason for the team and now the Eagles are looking flat out dominant in the preseason. The real games can't get here soon enough. Until then, now is as good a time as ever to get some new football gear for the upcoming season. Our good friends over at Philly Phaithful are back with some new deals for Bleeding Green Nation readers. Here are some details.
Fan-Demonium: Kelly Made The Right Calls - PE.com
Don't get caught up in thinking about the future too much. Morris is a quarterback with NFL talent. Chip Kelly liked what he saw enough to bring him on board. Morris has to show he fits the Eagles’ offense (I think he does) and that he is worth keeping around to develop for the future. Offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland was on the Miami staff when Morris played there in college so that helps to give the Eagles an idea of what kind of a person Morris is. Morris has been given a great opportunity. Time will tell if he makes the most of it.
Film Review: Eric Rowe’s Struggles - Birds 24/7
Eric Rowe thought the Jets were picking on him in the preseason finale. The defensive back has shown early improvement as he’s made the jump from college to the NFL, but Thursday displayed much further he has to go. "I know I had a few mistakes," Rowe said. "They were obvious so it’s nothing I can blame on anyone but myself. I can’t wait to go home and watch the film and see what I did wrong so I can correct it." What, exactly, will Rowe see when he watches that film? We picked out a few plays and talked to the rookie about his struggles.
Eric Rowe, Marcus Smith among players that can take Eagles from good to great - NJ.com
The Eagles showed enough during the preseason that a few things seem certain. To start, this team should be able to compete for the playoffs even if they don't play up to their full potential. In addition, the depth on this team is impressive, especially at some key positions. What is also clear, however, is that if the Eagles want to go from 10-6, their record the past seasons, to one of the best in the NFC, they are going to need certain players to step up at important positions.
Cody Parkey's play will be crucial for Eagles - Inquirer
When you made a list of reasons that the Eagles had the best special teams in the NFL last season, Parkey's preseason addition belonged at the top. The only downfall was that all his good work did not lead to a place in the postseason. The thing about kickers, however, is that they are a lot like relief pitchers and golfers. One good season is not always followed by another. Minnesota's Blair Walsh, for example, hit on 35 of 38 field goals as a rookie in 2012, including 10 of 10 from 50 yards and beyond. Last season, however, he made only 26 of 35 kicks.
See Ya in Santa Clara - The MMQB
Philadelphia/Dallas. Flip a coin. I like the Eagles better, by a bit, mostly because the Cowboys lost their best defensive back (Orlando Scandrick) for the year this preseason, and because Philadelphia scored faster this preseason than the Kardashians printed money. But there’s no insurance for Sam Bradford staying upright for the season; if he does, the Eagles are as good as anyone in the NFC, and maybe better.
The Giants are reportedly targeting Seahawks holdout Kam Chancellor - SB Nation
Chancellor's holdout is threatening to stretch into the regular season, and the Giants are supposedly one of several teams that has inquired about bringing him aboard.
