Let's get to the links...
10 things we learned from the Eagles game - BGN
It's happening. Those reports about Tebow having a "very good chance" to make the Eagles roster? They seem to be true, especially after this performance. Tebow looked the best he's been in an Eagles uniform. For the most part he was accurate and made good decisions. His worst pass was an interception that came on a play where he basically had to force the ball into coverage since it was 4th and long. Now the Eagles will hope they never have to play Tebow for an extended period of time, if at all, this season.
Eric Rowe after preseason: 'Man, this league is no joke' - CSN Philly
But you have to remember to grade Rowe on a curve. He played mostly safety in college and has been asked to play both outside and inside as a cornerback in the Eagles' defense. "I had a couple bad plays," Rowe said after the game, "but, I mean, first preseason, I feel like I'm definitely gonna get better from this. I'm not even really trippin' about it." Even though Rowe's last two games weren't the strongest, he feels like he's grown this summer and learned what it takes to compete and succeed in the NFL. He's less concerned with physicality and more concerned with mentality.
Handing out 10 awards from the Eagles-Jets preseason game - PhillyVoice
The Birds stayed relatively healthy this preseason, which is really the best thing you can ask for. A few of the depth guys were lost for the season during training camp (Travis Long, JaCorey Shepherd), and some other guys got dinged up and missed some time (Zach Ertz), but on the whole the Eagles are in pretty good shape health-wise heading into Week 1 of the regular season.
Eagles' secondary depth still a question mark - Inquirer
For all the changes the Eagles made to their secondary this offseason, there are still unresolved questions about the group with the preseason over and only 10 days separating the team from the start of the regular season. The starting four defensive backs are set, but they didn't participate Thursday in a 24-18 preseason loss to the New York Jets. Although the unit appears improved, a small sample size of preseason plays is far from enough evidence to say there has been an upgrade.
Four Downs: Kiko Alonso’s Debut - Birds 24/7
He only played eight snaps, and the Eagles' defense gave up a touchdown in his only series, but Kiko Alonso played pretty well in his debut, particularly against the run. He did a good job of scraping across the formation and filling the holes. He also maintained good leverage against offensive linemen, meaning he made it tough on blockers to get in between him and the ball-carrier. However, he took that to the extreme on one play and over-committed to where he thought the running back was going, before the ball-carrier cutback and gained several yards because of an open hole Alonso left behind. He was also consistently around the ball and recorded two solo tackles, in part because he took good pursuit angles and chased the ball-carrier down.
Up and Down - Iggles Blitz
The Eagles fell to the Jets 24-18. This was only backups playing so it isn’t a big deal in terms of the big picture. But the Eagles got pushed around way too much on both sides of the ball. After the game, Chip Kelly wasn’t in the best of moods and basically said every player was up and down. Was he mad at his team’s performance? Was he frustrated with all the Tebow questions that came his way in the press conference? Was he feisty because he knows that he’ll be ending the dreams of 22 players in the next 48 hours or so?
Tim Tebow saves best game of preseason for last in Eagles' win over Jets - NJ.com
Tim Tebow has played in plenty of big games throughout his career, so it is hard to say that Thursday's preseason finale with the Eagles is No. 1. Given the possibility that his NFL career was on the line, however, it might have been -- and Tebow stepped up big time. "I think I'm getting more and more comfortable," Tebow said. "More and more comfortable with the offense."
Fantastic Preseason Comes To An End - PE.com
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- No major injuries. A sneak peek at an offense that showed signs of tremendous explosiveness. A defense that took the ball away and tightened up down the field. A special teams that dominated. This was a very fine preseason, indeed.
As the NFL opens up the air, DBs are sitting ducks - SB Nation
Last year, the NFL Competition Committee enacted stricter enforcement of rules protecting wide receivers. The game might never be the same.
