The Philadelphia Eagles will release their second official injury report in advance of their Week 3 game against the New York Jets later on Thursday. For now, here's a quick update on the team's injury situation.
After leaving practice early on Thursday due to a hamstring tweak, as Chip Kelly described it, DeMarco Murray did not practice at all on Thursday. It remains to be seen if he will play against the Jets. If not, expect Ryan Mathews to get most of the carries at running back with Darren Sproles mixing in.
Kelly also pretty much ruled out Kiko Alonso for Sunday's game by saying it's unlikely he'll play this week. This doesn't come as a surprise considering the knee injury Alonso suffered in Week 2.
Mychal Kendricks has not been ruled out for the Jets game, but the linebacker was not seen practicing on Thursday. Kendricks is still dealing with a hamstring injury. If both Alonso and Kendricks can't play, expect to see plenty of playing time for Jordan Hicks and DeMeco Ryans. Veterans Brad Jones and Najee Goode could also be in the mix for snaps.
Starting defensive end Cedric Thornton and top backup Taylor Hart did not practice yet again. With those two players potentially out, Vinny Curry will move primarily back to defensive end. The team will also count on Brandon Bair to be active and play.
With Curry moving back to defensive end and Jones moving back to inside linebacker, expect 2014 first round pick Marcus Smith to be active in Week 3.
