Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 9/2/15.

Let's get to the links...

Why Your Team Sucks 2015: Dallas Cowboys - Deadspin
Some people are fans of the Dallas Cowboys. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Dallas Cowboys. his 2015 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group.

In or out: Riley Cooper, Marcus Smith, Kenjon Barner, Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow - PhillyVoice
Cooper is perhaps the most unpopular player on the team among the fan base, partly because of his racist rant two years ago, but maybe more so because he stunk last season. If you're counting down the days until Cooper is a goner, save yourself some time. He's not going anywhere. The coaching staff still likes Cooper, who is the best blocker in the history of blocking.

Eagles Wake-Up Call: Tebow’s Two-Point Attempts - Birds 24/7
The first attempt featured Tebow in an empty backfield with three receivers and two tight ends. Tebow took the snap and ran right up the middle, but was tackled about a yard short of the end zone. Andrew Gardner was immediately beaten off the ball and the defensive lineman got his hands on Tebow behind the line-of-scrimmage.

Some RG3 Talk - Iggles Blitz
The hottest topic around Robert Griffin III. How long will Washington keep him? If cut, where will he go? And is he a QB worth having interest in? I could probably write several thousand words on the RG3 situation. He went through some crazy ups and downs in just his first 2 years in the NFL. It is way to simplistic to make the case that he is very talented and was simply trapped in a bad situation, just as it is way too simplistic to say that 2012 was a complete fluke and he is a lost cause who just doesn’t get it. Let’s focus on the Philly angle. Should the Eagles have interest in RG3? Absolutely.

Walter Thurmond On Chip Kelly: ‘Great Leader, Wants To Win Championship’ - CBS Philly
"Coach Kelly is a great leader and he has the mindset, and he wants to win a championship," Thurmond told the 94WIP Morning Show on Tuesday. "It’s evident as far as the acquisitions he’s made in the offseason, the guys that he’s brought in that really buy into the program, that want to play unselfish football and guys that take pride in their technique and want to be great. I think that’s one of the biggest things, getting those group of guys together to want to win a championship. I think he’s done a great job so far."

Matt Barkley in tough spot as stock drops - Inquirer
And now Barkley finds himself fighting for a roster spot with someone who hasn't played in an NFL regular-season game in three years and is hard-pressed to complete a pass beyond 20 yards. If that player was anyone other than Tim Tebow, the Eagles' third quarterback competition would be just a local phenomenon. Only in Philadelphia was the Trent Edwards-Mike Kafka battle of 2012 considered a story angle worth chronicling with daily updates. But with Tebow comes a legion of fans, many of them not even casual followers of the NFL, and national attention.

Riley Cooper on lack of targets: 'It's preseason, dude' - CSN Philly
Officially, Riley Cooper has not been targeted by Eagles quarterbacks through three preseason games. Apparently, this was a source of some concern, because the 27-year-old receiver was asked about his lack of presence in the passing attack this summer. "Honestly, I never even thought about this until you all brought it to my attention," Cooper responded Monday. "I mean, it’s preseason, dude.

Sam Bradford for Marcus Mariota? Eagles fans would still do the deal - NJ.com
Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford is coming off of what can only be described as a perfect performance, going 10-for-10 with three touchdowns in the team's preseason win over the Green Bay Packers. The heart wants, however, what the heart wants.

Former Eagle Tom Scott Passes Away - PE.com
The Philadelphia Eagles are saddened to learn of the passing of former linebacker Tom Scott, who died on Monday, August 31 at the age of 84. Scott is survived by his wife, Linda. A two-time Pro Bowler as an Eagle in 1957 and 1958, Scott enjoyed a 12-year NFL career, splitting time in Philadelphia (1953-58) and with the New York Giants (1959-1964). He totaled seven fumble recoveries, three interceptions and one fumble return for a touchdown in 72 games with the Eagles. A former fifth-round pick in the 1953 NFL Draft, Scott earned first-team All-Pro honors by the Sporting News in 1955.

Livelihoods are at stake during NFL roster cuts - Sports On Earth
To the average person, many NFL roster cuts are just names on a piece of paper or a website or a Twitter timeline, names which you've never heard of before nor will again. But the truth is, there is a lot going on behind those decisions.

A comprehensive history of how Washington ruined Robert Griffin III's body, mind and spirit - SB Nation
RG3 has gone from superstar youngster to disappointing failure. But time after time after time, those failures have been the result of major dysfunction from Washington's higher-ups, as the people supposedly trying to help Griffin have actually hurt him.
