Philadelphia Eagles kicker Cody Parkey was a Pro Bowl player as a rookie in 2014, but Eagles fans were reminded on Monday night that special teams play can be a fickle thing.
Parkey hit a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter of the Eagles' Monday night loss to the Falcons. But with the Eagles down by two late in the fourth quarter, Parkey missed a 44-yarder that would have given the Eagles the lead.
Despite the miss, head coach Chip Kelly expressed support for his kicker after the game.
Chip Kelly: "I have a lot of confidence in Cody Parkey." #Eagles

Chip on FG: 44 harder, we were down by 2. Middle of the field. Didn't think it was a tough one.

Parkey has been struggling with kicks for some time. He missed two field goals in preseason, as well as one extra point try. Parkey also suffered a groin injury during training camp and did not kick in the preseason finale. And while Parkey has maintained that he is indeed healthy, it's worth pointing out this tidbit from the Daily News' Les Bowen:
Cody Parkey wrapping his supposedly healed right groin and putting on pressure stocking for flight home. Hmmmm

It may not be time to panic about the kicking situation just yet, but Parkey can't afford to miss too many more like that if he wants to stay in Philadelphia.
