Eagles rookie cornerback JaCorey Shepherd was carted off the field during Eagles training camp practice on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
The injury seemed to occur on a play where Darren Sproles ran into Shepherd along the sideline. The Eagles do not tackle to the ground in practice, but the rookie landed awkwardly after contact was made. It appeared Shepherd's right knee/leg was being worked on as he laid on the field.
This injury will be an important one to monitor. Shepherd has been taking the bulk of first team reps at nickel cornerback in practice since the team traded Brandon Boykin to the Steelers before training camp began last week. Shepherd has looked really good in practice, especially for a rookie.
With Shepherd out, second year cornerback Jaylen Watkins was seen filling in at nickel corner.
The full extent of Shepherd's injury is currently unknown. One reporter noted that Shepherd sat shotgun in the cart as he was taken off the field, as opposed to laying stretched out in the back of the cart. Perhaps that is a positive sign, but one can't be sure.
Stay tuned for more updates on this situation.
