The Philadelphia Eagles are busy preparing for their fourth and final 2015 NFL preseason game against the New York Jets on Thursday evening. Most starters likely won't suit up. With that said, players are still practicing this week. Here's an update on the team's injury situation.
Kiko Alonso
The Eagles inside linebacker said he missed the Green Bay Packers game due to a nagging leg injury. He said he was just being cautious. Alonso practiced on Monday and expects to be fine for the regular season opener.
Cody Parkey
Prior to practice, Chip Kelly said Parkey is still dealing with a groin issue. It's worth noting the kicker played through a groin injury last season. The Eagles haven't waived backup punter/kicker Kip Smith yet, which could be a sign the team wants to give Parkey the night off on Thursday. Parkey said he expects to be fine for Week 1, which is two weeks away.
Lane Johnson
The Eagles' starting right tackle did not practice on Monday due to an MCL sprain. After practice, Johnson told reporters he hopes to return on Tuesday.
Zach Ertz
Kelly said Ertz "could be" ready for Week 1. He's still out while he recovers from groin surgery. The original reported timeline pegged Ertz to be back in time for the regular season.
Trey Burton
Burton, who is Ertz's primary backup, broke his thumb against the Ravens but hasn't missed any time. He caught two touchdown passes against the Packers. Tough dude.
Marcus Smith
Smith is still out of practice. He's expected to be back within a week or so, based on the original timeline. Smith said he's not sure if he'll play this week, which seems better than him saying he definitely won't.
Riley Cooper
Cooper sat out of Monday's practice with a "tweaked groin" but hopes to return on Tuesday. He likely won't play this week anyway.
