Carolina Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin suffered a season-ending ACL injury during practice on Wednesday, as confirmed by a report from Ian Rapoport. Footage of the injury can be viewed here, but you're really better off not watching it.
The injury is an unfortunate loss for the Panthers. As a rookie, Benjamin finished with 73 receptions for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. In fairness, a good portion of those stats came in garbage time. The Eagles saw this firsthand last year. Benjamin was kept quiet when the game mattered but he finished with three receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter.
Benjamin's injury impacts Philadelphia because the NFC East is scheduled to play the NFC South this season. The Eagles are specifically set to play the Panthers in a Week 7 Sunday Night Football road game on Oct. 25. Carolina was already thin at wide receiver, so this Benjamin injury makes things even worse for them.
In other injury news, the Eagles won't have to face oft-injured Dolphins safety Louis Delmas. He also tore his ACL. The Eagles play at home versus Miami in Week 10.
