Fletcher Cox is the unsung hero of the Eagles defense

He's so good.

The word I most often associate with Fletcher Cox is "beast." At only 24 years old, he's already one of the best players at his position in the NFL. He's a dominant monster on the field. He's great at both generating pressure (though it doesn't always show in the stats) and stopping the run. Unfortunately for Cox, his job isn't the most glamorous one and he doesn't always get the attention he deserves. Cox was named a sixth team alternate for the 2015 Pro Bowl.

Perhaps the good news is that some national guys are starting to catch on to the greatness of Cox. Pete Prisco of CBS Sports recently highlighted the defender as the most underrated player on the Eagles' roster:

"It was stunning that he didn't get a spot in the Pro Bowl. He's a disruptive player who didn't pile up sacks, which hurt his chances. Opposing players know how good he is inside for the Eagles."

Sheil Kapadia of Birds 24/7 recently wrote a great profile on Cox. Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins had a great quote about him:

"I think he’s the unsung hero of our defense. When you watch him play snap in and snap out, he’s dominating. It’s that simple, whether it’s a run, whether it’s a pass. He’s taking on two guys and freeing up everybody else. …He’s obviously one of the guys who doesn’t get all the attention because it’s not a glorious job being down in the trenches, but he’s definitely one of the centerpieces of our defense."

The Eagles picked up Cox's fifth-year option earlier this offseason, so he's under contract through 2016. One would think the team would like to work out a long-term extension with him at some point.

Getting back to Prisco's list ... would you agree Cox is the most underrated Eagles player? Is there anyone else you would pick?
