The Dream Team Is Back... In New York

Move over Vince Young, Jets CB Buster Skrinne says there's a new "Dream Team"

It's still a phrase that will send a chill down the spine of any Eagles fan.

Dream Team

It was the summer of 2011 and coming off a near MVP Michael Vick led run in 2010, the Eagles went all in. They signed a plethora of players (which Howie Roseman was credited as a genius for doing) and clearly saw themselves as a Super Bowl contender, willing to going all out to plug any remaining holes.

One of those holes was backup QB, which they signed Vince Young to fill. When asked to describe the team's additions that offseason, Young smiled and said the infamous words,

"Dream Team."

Actually, his full quote from that day is hilarious in hindsight.

"From Nnamdi [Asomugha] to [Dominique Rodgers-]Cromartie, to Jason [Babin] to myself," Young told the media on Saturday. "I know they are going to do some more things. . . . It's just beautiful to see where we're trying to go."

Jason Babin would later agree on Twitter saying he saw the Eagles as "the Miami Heat of the NFL." This of course when the Miami Heat were an overhyped collection of stars that fell short of their promise as opposed to ya know.... The multiple time NBA Champion Heat

Of course all this boasting completely blew up in the Eagles face as they started the season 1-4 and would be 4-8 by week 13. They would end the season with a meaningless 4 game win streak to finish with an 8-8 record that made the whole mess look a bit better than it actually was. A year later Andy Reid would be fired after going 4-12.

Over those two seasons I don't think we can count exactly how many times "Dream Team" was used a taunt thrown in our collective faces. I still get a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach just writing the phrase...

But that's all ancient history apparently and it's cool to use "Dream Team" again! At least according to New York Jets CB Buster Skrinne, who weirdly compared his new squad to the "Dream Team" Eagles.

"I've never played on a defense with this much talent," said Skrine, who signed a four-year deal with the Jets in March. "Our front seven has all-stars and then in the back end, we have all-stars. I've never seen anything like this. Everybody said the Philadelphia Eagles were going to be like the Dream Team, but we have chemistry on this defense already, and you can see it out in practice. I mean, we can match up however you want to match up. We can match up with any offense."

I agree that the Jets defense looks extremely talented, but as for "Dream Team" all I can say is... Thank you so much Buster Skrinne for making that phrase your own! Seriously, it's all yours now! We Eagles fans surrender it to you willingly and with a tremendous amount of gratitude! Best of luck!
