There have been quite a few rumors about the Eagles interest in Byron Maxwell this offseason. One rumor has Philadelphia pegged as the "front-runner" to land the highly-coveted free agent cornerback. It makes a lot of sense. The Eagles cleared a lot of cap space recently and the team needs two new starting cornerbacks.
It appears the interest might be mutual. Appearing on ESPN on Thursday morning, Maxwell was asked if he has any interest in joining Philadelphia. His response:
"Definitely. They run the scheme that I’m talking about. Cover 3, man press. And they’re committed to winning, so definitely Philadelphia. If they was to come at me, I would definitely have to consider them."
Maxwell isn't wrong; he's a great fit for what the Eagles like in their cornerbacks. He's not only tall at 6-1 but he also has very long arms at 33.5 inches.
In a poll featured here on Bleeding Green Nation, nearly 40% of Eagles fans identified Maxwell as the top player that the team must sign in free agency. Those fans might just get their wish when NFL free agency begins on Tuesday, March 10.
