LeSean McCoy Trade: Eagles send running back to Buffalo Bills for Kiko Alonso

WOW

Jeffrey G. Pittenger-USA TODAY Sports

According to Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles have traded running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso. It's straight up player-for-player trade. No draft picks involved.

Quick note: the trade won't become official until 2015 NFL free agency begins next week on March 10. But for now, it's a done deal.

Yes, this is real. And it's crazy. Talk about a stunner.

There had been some speculation that McCoy not return to the Eagles this offseason. His 2015 cap hit is scheduled to be nearly $12 million. It seemed like the Eagles may have wanted McCoy to restructure his deal, but recent reports indicated Philadelphia had not reached out to McCoy. And now we know why.

McCoy, who turns 27 in July, was originally drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He succeeded former Eagles running back great Brian Westbrook. McCoy made 76 starts in 90 career appearances with Philadelphia. In his six-year career with the team, he finished with 1,461 attempts for 6,792 yards and 44 touchdowns. He also contributed in the passing attack with 300 receptions for 2,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. McCoy broke the all-time Eagles rushing record in December 2014.

As for Alonso, he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Alonso played for Eagles head coach Chip Kelly at Oregon, so there is definitely some Duck Bias going on here. Alonso was a productive player in his rookie season with Buffalo. He started and played in all 16 games in 2013 and recorded 87 tackles, four interceptions, five passes defensed, two sacks, and one forced fumble. Alonso missed the entire 2014 season with an ACL injury. Alonso turns 25 in August.
