According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, Bradley Fletcher is signing a one-year contract with the New England Patriots. The veteran cornerback worked out for the Patriots on Tuesday. It seems like that workout went well.
What didn't go so well is the end of Fletcher's tenure with the Eagles. After originally signing a two-year deal in the 2013 offseason, Fletcher ended up starting 27 games in his Philadelphia tenure. The results were mixed but most will remember him for his struggles, especially late in the 2014 season.
The Patriots signing Fletcher marks the second straight offseason where New England has signed a struggling Eagles defensive back. Last year, the Patriots signed Patrick Chung and he managed to not play as terribly in his return New England. It'll be interesting to see if a change of scenery helps Fletcher out as well.
It's pretty odd that the much-maligned Eagles cornerback castoffs have ended up with the 2015 Super Bowl teams. Fletcher is in New England and the Seattle Seahawks inked Cary Williams to a deal earlier this month.
The Eagles currently have Byron Maxwell, Walter Thurmond, Jaylen Watkins, Brandon Boykin and Nolan Carroll at cornerback. The team could look to upgrade the depth at the position in the upcoming NFL Draft.
