2015 NFL Free Agency Rumor: Could the Eagles rescind restricted tender on Chris Polk?

With a crowded backfield in place, could Chris Polk be the odd man out?

The Eagles have a new three-headed monster at running back, so is four a crowd? The Eagles could potentially rescind the restricted tender that they placed on running back Chris Polkaccording to Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson.

Earlier this month, the Eagles gave Polk the lowest possible restricted tender. If he were to sign the deal, Polk would make roughly $1.6 million this season. If a team were to give him an offer sheet, the Eagles would have to match the deal within a certain time frame or lose Polk for no compensation.

The fact that the Eagles could let Polk walk regardless with the smaller tender makes it unnecessary to rescind the deal. That said, if Polk signs the tender, they are on the hook for his salary. The team may not want to take that chance with the amount of money that they are paying DeMarco Murry, Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews. Plus, the Eagles already have Matthew Tucker and Kenjon Barner on the roster for camp competition.

Polk has been an oft-injured member of the backfield and special teams over the last three seasons. Like many of the other former Eagles let go during the past month, Polk was originally acquired by Andy Reid as an undrafted free agent.
