According Peter Schrager of FOX Sports, top free agent running back DeMarco Murray could be deciding between two NFC East rivals. Schrager reports that Philadelphia is "very much" in play for Murray.
"Sources tell me Eagles are now "very much" in play in the DeMarco Murray chase. Could be a Dallas-Philly showdown today."
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan is confirming Schrager's report. It was yesterday when Caplan first noted Murray had mutual interest in joining the Eagles but now he's reporting it again.
But didn't the Eagles just sign Ryan Mathews? Yes, they did. But according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, that isn't stopping Philadelphia's interest. As said by him:
"Landing Ryan Mathews does not end Philadelphia's pursuit of Dallas free-agent RB DeMarco Murray. Hardly."
Murray was a critical part of the Cowboys offense in 2014. Dallas burdened him with a huge workload and it paid off pretty well for them as they advanced to a 12-4 record before losing in the second round of the 2015 NFL Playoffs.
Murray might have some extra interest in joining the Eagles now that his former University of Oklahoma teammate, Sam Bradford, is expected to be Philadelphia's quarterback in 2015.
This is turning out to be one heck of an offseason.
