According to a report from Aaron Suttles of The Tuscaloosa News, the Philadelphia Eagles are set to hire Alabama director of football operations Joe Pannunzio:
Must Reads
"The Tuscaloosa News has learned that Alabama Director of Football Operations, Joe Pannunzio, is headed to the Philadelphia Eagles."
The Eagles have not yet confirmed the report.
It's unclear what role Pannunzio will serve with Philadelphia, though I imagine it's a front office job. It's very clear why this hire would make sense. Pannunzio has an obvious connection with recently promoted Eagles vice president of player personnel Ed Marynowitz, who is now Philadelphia's de facto general manager along with head coach Chip Kelly. Marynowitz worked at Alabama as the director of player personnel for four seasons from 2008-11.
The 55-year-old Pannunzio originally joined the Crimson Tide as the director of football operations in 2011. He coached at the University of Miami from 2006-10, where he overlapped with current Eagles offensive line Jeff Stoutland. He also served as the head coach of Murray State's football program from 2000-05.
Pannunzio also played quarterback for Southern Colorado before graduating in 1982. Read more about him here.
Stay tuned for more information.
