Dez Bryant video rumors are floating around

So if you haven't heard by now there are some pretty crazy rumors floating around the Internet about a Dez Bryant video. The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver sort of addressed these rumors last week, but the rumors haven't stopped. So far there's been a lot of speculation but not a lot of facts. According to TerezOwens.com, it's allegedly "five times worse than the Ray Rice video."

Richie Whitt of NBCDFW.com posted the following update on Wednesday morning:

"Let me start by being very clear: I have not seen the video. Therefore, I’m not 100-percent certain that it exists. But multiple people that I trust are confident that there is a video, and that it is incriminating of Bryant.

There are different, even conflicting versions of a time frame and even about what may be on the tape. A phrase I heard more than once: "… domestic dispute with a woman …"

Three words that seem to be consistent: "Walmart surveillance video."

As you can see, nothing very concrete there. But ESPN Insider Adam Schefter seems to be suggesting the video does exist. Check out what he had to say in a recent radio appearance on the Carmen and Jurko show on ESPN 100 in Chicago. Definitely give the audio version (46 minute mark) a listen, but for now here's the transcript. Schefter took a long pause before answering the first question. (H/T to @Philatticus on the find.)

"Carmen and Jurko: What’s going on with Dez Bryant?

Adam Schefter: [long pause] That’s a very interesting question. I’ll just say this – check back with me on that one.

Carmen and Jurko: Have you heard about this video? Do you know what’s on it?

Schefter: Yeah.

Carmen and Jurko: Have you seen it?

Schefter: I have not seen it.

Carmen and Jurko: Is he doing something criminal? Can you talk about it?

Schefter: I’ll say this: I’ve been working on this since September.

Carmen and Jurko: Is it criminal?

Schefter: Like I said I’ve been working on it since September. There’s a lot involved.

Carmen and Jurko: Is this going to come out?

Schefter: Don’t know. Don’t know yet.

Carmen and Jurko: Okay. Wow. I have never heard about this until the weekend and now it’s all over the internet

Schefter: It’s taken up a lot of my time this season I’ll say that.

Carmen and Jurko: And you did it in a very clandestine way it sounds like. Did you feel like you had to?

Schefter: Well listen, whatever we’ve been working on is not ready and maybe it never will be. Who knows? You’ve got to be very careful on these things. People can talk about videos, they can talk about this they can talk about that. The fact of the matter is, it doesn’t mean anything and it’s really not fair to him right now until you have all your facts in line. Which we spent a long time trying to do."

This all comes at a very interesting time for the Cowboys. Bryant is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason. It's expected that Dallas will use the franchise tag designation on Bryant by the deadline on Monday, March 2, but the rumor of this video could certainly complicate matters. Then again, perhaps it's a lot of fuss about nothing. Stay tuned.
