Riley Cooper featured on Black History Month of Eagles calendar was an "honest mistake"

Oops.

Whoever made the Eagles 2015 official team calendar done goofed. No, not just because they chose Jeff Maehl as the cover athlete for January. (Or Bryce Brown, who was traded last May, for July!) But because they have, of all 53 players, Riley Cooper featured on February, which is Black History Month.

It was only less than two years ago when Cooper was caught on video at a Kenny Chesney concert in Philadelphia using a racial slur.

TMZ recently realized this poor placement choice and reached out to the Eagles for a statement.

""If anything, it was an honest mistake," Eagles PR rep Brett Strohsacker tells TMZ Sports.

Strohsacker says an independent company was used to put the calender together -- and says the Eagles are investigating to find out why Cooper was selected to be February.

He adds, "I will look into this issue and see what the thought process was.""

According to Pro Football Focus, Cooper was the worst wide receiver in the NFL in 2014. The team's decision to re-sign him last offseason continues to look not so great.

UPDATE: The Eagles released a team statement.

“We do not oversee the production of the annual team calendar. We do not provide any input about the players who are featured or where those pictures appear in the calendar. The NFL licenses the production of that calendar to a third party and we do not have an opportunity to review the material.”
