2015 NFL Mock Draft: Mel Kiper 2.0

Will the Eagles do whatever it takes?

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. released a new 2015 NFL mock draft on Wednesday. This is Kiper's second mock for the upcoming draft. Here's a look at Version 1.0, where he had the Eagles taking a cornerback. This time around McShay has the Eagles taking... the same player. That's not fun. But like Todd McShay, Kiper also wonders if the Eagles will stay put at pick No. 20, via ESPN In$ider:

"Marcus Peters
COLLEGE: Washington
Class: Jr
HT: 5-11
WT: 193
POS: CB

Analysis: I can't leave all the Eagles fans tweeting at me and asking the big question hanging, so I'll say this: Of course I can fathom a scenario where they move up (or at least look to) and target the QB who made it tough for Chip Kelly to leave for a good NFL job when he did. But I can't project a trade here, and just as many close Eagles observers know that help at cornerback is badly needed. Peters doesn't come without question marks -- he was dismissed from the team at Washington this past season -- but if it's purely a question of talent, he's a potential steal at this point in the first round. He has loads of natural talent, and playmaker instincts to go with very good ball skills, and he makes any secondary better if he's playing up to his potential."

It's already been discussed why Peters both does and doesn't make sense for the Eagles. On one hand, he's a talented cornerback and the Eagles desperately need an upgrade in that area. On the other hand, he just doesn't seem to be a fit for Chip Kelly's culture. As Kiper even acknowledges, there are significant character concerns with Peters.

Update: Check out our 2015 NFL Draft preview.

As for Mariota, Kiper has him falling down to the New York Jets at pick No. 6 overall. Last month Kiper had Mariota going at No. 2, so he's dropped a few spots. Kiper is on record saying that Mariota isn't ready to play in the NFL yet, except for the Birds.

Here's Kiper's full 2.0 mock. You have to sign up for In$ider to read the explanations for all picks.
