"You all know who's next."
Those were the final words LeSean McCoy spoke before leaving the podium following the Buffalo Bills' Week 13 win over the Houston Texans. McCoy was obviously referring to his return to Philadelphia this week after being traded away by the Eagles earlier this offseason. McCoy seems to be looking forward to this game. The Eagles' all-time rusher still has love for the people who supported him over the first six years of his NFL career. Via Jeff McLane of The Inquirer:
"I don't know how it will go Sunday but I got all respect for them," McCoy said of Eagles fans. "My years I was there, they were real loyal to me. I've got nothing but love for them."
McCoy said he comes back to Philly often. He still has a home here and, of course, friends. He still has fans, too.
"I see how the fans are in Philadelphia. I like them. They're true fans. They may like players, but they're so loyal to the franchise and that's how it should be," McCoy said. "I'm used to them yelling, screaming, hollering, but maybe booing here and there. But I know how they are as true fans."
The player affectionately known as "Shady" provided a lot of fun moments for Eagles fans over the years. But some of those memories may have been tainted by the fallout of McCoy's departure. McCoy was bitter about being traded away from the Eagles, and it showed in his comments. McCoy claimed Chip Kelly got rid of all the "good black players" on Philadelphia's roster. He also accused Kelly of not liking star players.
McCoy claims he doesn't harbor any ill-will towards his former coach. His recent comments indicate he's more indifferent than anything.
"I don't have no issue with him. There's no problem. I don't hate him. It's nothing like that," McCoy said of Kelly on Tuesday. "It's just that he wants things done a certain way. He doesn't care about the player and how he feels about it. He's the coach, so I guess I can understand that type of thinking.
"Maybe I'm just different. Certain things I might ask him or talk to him about - he's probably not used to. We ain't like best friends or that, but we're no enemies."
But while McCoy might claim indifference, he said he still stands by the racial comments he made about Kelly. From an appearance on 94.1 WIP, via CBS Philly:
"I’m not gonna change anything I say," McCoy said on 94WIP, when asked about the racial comments made back in May. "I stand by everything I said before. And I don’t have no problems with Chip, no hatred. Nothing at all. Everything I said, I stand by it. I don’t take it back.
"One thing about myself, I would never take back nothing I say," he continued. "I have my own reasons to feel how I felt. I think it’s the difference between me and other players. Is other players will only say how they feel. I’m different. I’ll speak how I feel, but I really don’t want to relive that. I said what I said, it is what it is. I have no issue with Chip. I don’t have no hatred or nothing against him. We’re not best friends or nothing like that, but I have nothing negative to say about him."
Love him or hate him, McCoy will provide a big challenge to the Eagles' defense this weekend. The Bills' rusher has gained 112 yards in three of his last five games. The 6-6 Bills and 5-7 Eagles are both fighting for a playoff spot, albeit in different conferences, so there's a lot on the line.
