NFL Playoff Picture: Here's who Eagles fans should be rooting for in Week 13

Who should you be rooting for in order for the Eagles to make the playoffs?

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

You might not want to hear it, but the Philadelphia Eagles are still alive in the 2016 NFL playoffs picture. The Birds are just "one game out" of first place in the NFC East. If you're still hopeful that the Eagles can make the playoffs, here's a rooting guide for you.

Rooting for the Eagles to make the playoffs

Philadelphia Eagles (4-7) at New England Patriots (10-1): It would be a huge upset if the Eagles won this game. The Eagles are probably definitely going to lose. But if a miracle happens and the Eagles somehow pull it off, they can keep their season very much alive. Root for the Eagles, obviously.

New York Jets (6-5) at New York Giants (5-6): The Giants are the "home team" in this game. The G-Men almost rallied late to beat Washington after getting shutout for the first three quarters last week, but ultimately fell short. The Jets, meanwhile, had only won one of their past five games before beating the Dolphins last week. I think this is a toss-up, especially with Darrelle Revis out, but the Jets are slightly favored in this one so maybe Todd Bowles can help the Eagles out. Root for the Jets.

Washington Redskins (5-6) at Dallas Cowboys (3-8): The Cowboys still believe their season is alive despite Tony Romo going down with an injury again. I think Washington is going to have their way with Dallas here, but a Cowboys win obviously helps the Eagles. So, root against Washington on Monday Night Football.

Here's what the NFC East standings could look like if everyone breaks the Eagles' way this week:

1) Washington Redskins - 5-7
2) Philadelphia Eagles - 5-7
3) New York Giants - 5-7
4) Dallas Cowboys - 4-8

Washington would still be in first due to their head-to-head tiebreaker over Philly. The Eagles play Washington again in Week 16. The Eagles would be ahead of the Giants due to a head-to-head tiebreaker. The Eagles play the G-Men on the road in Week 17.

Rooting for the Eagles to get a good draft pick

If you've already accepted that the Eagles aren't good and aren't going to go on some kind of miracle run, it's probably time to cheer for a better draft pick. The Eagles have a realistic chance to lose out given how poorly they've looked recently. If the season were to end today, the Eagles would own the No. 9 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Here's a look at the current draft order:

1. Tennessee Titans: 2-9 (.511 strength of schedule)
2. Cleveland Browns: 2-9 (.517 SOS)
3. Dallas Cowboys: 3-8 (.523 SOS)
4. San Diego Chargers: 3-8 (.528 SOS)
5. San Francisco 49ers: 3-8 (.534 SOS)
6. Miami Dolphins: 4-7 (.477 SOS)
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: 4-7 (.489 SOS)
8. Baltimore Ravens: 4-7 (.494 SOS)
9. Philadelphia Eagles: 4-7 (.511 SOS)
10. St. Louis Rams: 4-7 (.517 SOS)
11. New Orleans Saints: 4-7 (.523 SOS)
12. Detroit Lions: 4-7 (.528 SOS)
13. New York Giants: 5-6 (.489 SOS - 4-5 in conference)
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 5-6 (.489 SOS - 4-3 in conference)
15. Oakland Raiders: 5-6 (.506 SOS)
16. Buffalo Bills: 5-6 (.511 SOS)
17. Chicago Bears: 5-6 (.528 SOS)
18. New York Jets: 6-5 (.455 SOS)
19. Atlanta Falcons: 6-5 (.489 SOS)
20. Pittsburgh Steelers: 6-5 (.517 SOS)

In order for the Eagles to get a better pick, they need to lose. They also need some other bad teams to win. Here's who to root for:

Titans over Jaguars, Browns over Bengals, Cowboys over Washington, Chargers over Broncos, 49ers over Bears, Dolphins over Ravens, Rams over Cardinals, Saints over Panthers, Giants over Jets, Buccaneers over Falcons, Raiders over Chiefs, Bills over Texans.
