Chip Kelly is no longer the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. He has been fired, according to an official announcement from the team.
Today, Jeffrey Lurie, Chairman and CEO of the Philadelphia Eagles, released Head Coach Chip Kelly.
"We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward," said Lurie.
Pat Shurmur will be interim head coach for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.
Ed Marynowitz, Vice President of Player Personnel, was also released. Tom Donahoe, former General Manager of the Buffalo Bills and Director of Football Operations for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Senior Football Advisor for the Eagles since 2012, will assume the role of Senior Director of Player Personnel.
A press conference with Lurie will be held Wednesday, December 30 in the auditorium of the NovaCare Complex at 12:00 p.m. Media will be permitted into the building at 10:30 a.m.
Lurie also wrote a letter to Eagles season ticket holders:

As noted in the release, the team also fired Ed Marynowitz, whom Kelly hired to oversee Philadelphia's personnel department.
What this means is that the Eagles are poised to hire a new head coach and a new general manager.
Kelly being fired doesn't come as a total surprise. The Eagles obviously struggled in 2015. They have a 6-9 record with one game left to play. A number of Kelly's moves as a general manager, such as signing DeMarco Murray, obviously haven't panned out very well.
Still, the timing of this news is a shock. Kelly just had a press conference with the media yesterday. The Eagles still have one game left to play. One might have figured the Eagles would wait until after the season to make such a big decision, but clearly that isn't the case.
Kelly finished his Eagles career with a 25-19 record. He helped lead the Eagles to an NFC East title in 2013 but Philadelphia lost their only playoff game.
It remains to be seen where Kelly will land. There will be speculation about him reuniting with Marcus Mariota in Tennessee. Maybe he'll go back to college. Who knows.
All we know for sure is that the Eagles made a huge decision on Tuesday evening. It will be very interesting to see where the team goes from here.
Stay tuned for more updates and reaction.
