Today we continue the 2015 December edition of Philadelphia Eagles approval polls with defensive coordinator Bill Davis. Don't forget to vote in the Chip Kelly approval poll from Friday if you missed out.
Davis finished with a 88% approval rating in November, which is the highest mark he's received since we started doing these polls. He deserved it. The Eagles' defense had been playing very well up to that play. And then ... the Buccaneers and Lions games happened. After being so solid for most of the season, the Eagles collapsed and allowed 45 points in back-to-back games. Davis obviously deserves blame for those failures. As BGN's Dave Mangels pointed out, however, Davis hasn't been helped out by Chip Kelly's inept offense.
Fortunately for Philadelphia, Davis redeemed himself to some extent against the Patriots last week. He found a way to keep Tom Brady and New England's offense in check. The Eagles generated a lot of pressure on Brady and the future Hall of Fame quarterback couldn't handle it.
Despite two catastrophically bad performances, the Eagles' defense currently ranks ninth overall by Football Outsiders and ninth by Pro Football Focus. The Eagles rank 15th in yards per play allowed and 15th in points per play allowed.
