DeMarco Murray wants to play for the Cowboys again, per report

NFL insider Jason Cole recently reported that NFL executives believe DeMarco Murray is trying to force his way out of Philadelphia in order to reunite with the Dallas Cowboys. Now Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk is separately reporting something similar:

Despite what Eagles running back DeMarco Murray said to reporters on Thursday, the evidence suggests that he’d like to get out of Philly. There’s a growing feeling that he’d like to return to Dallas.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, there’s "a lot of truth" to the notion that Murray would like to play for the Cowboys again.

Florio goes on to suggest that the Eagles might try to trade their potentially disgruntled running back.

Murray spoke with reporters following Thursday's practice and denied he's unhappy with the Eagles.

"Yeah, I'm very happy here," Murray said. "These are my teammates, my guys. I've got a lot of respect for everyone in this locker room, the coaching staff, the ownership. I love it here. [...]

"I made a commitment to [Lurie], and [Kelly], and these guys in the locker room," Murray said. "I love this team, I love playing for this team, and I love the fans. By signing on that dotted line, I knew I was going to be here for a long time, and I'm committed to winning a lot of games. Obviously it's been a tough year for myself and the team so far, but we're still tied for first place in the division, and we've still got a chance to do some special things. I'm committed here for the long run."

I don't doubt Murray would have some interest in returning to the Cowboys. He had a lot of success there and he stills speaks highly of the organization. But that doesn't mean a return any time soon is realistic. Aside from Murray's public commitment to the Eagles, his salary is going to make a trade or release prohibitive. And though he's been a disappointment for the Eagles this season, Philadelphia might not be ready to pull the plug after making such a big commitment in the offseason. Perhaps they feel he can be better next year.

Still, it's interesting how these rumors about Murray's future continue to pop up. One can only imagine where the leak is coming from.
