In 2014, Kaepernick took 52 sacks. That was second worst in the NFL, behind only Blake Bortles. So far in 2015, he has taken 28 sacks, putting him on pace for 56 on the season. Over his career, Kaepernick has taken a sack every 10.1 pass attempts. That is the third worst in the NFL among Week 1 starting quarterbacks. That is emblematic of a quarterback who is not making quick decisions with the football. As a passer, he's among the league worst in nearly every statistical category this season.

They could get more by waiting to trade him in March, when a team like the Eagles could be in better position to offer more value for Kaepernick. By making a play for Kaepernick now, the Eagles would be disrupting the chemistry of a team that is only one-half game out of first place in the NFC East. By waiting until March, when quarterback Sam Bradford could be heading to free agency, it will be a much smoother transition.

So you try to be creative and that’s how you end up with Bradford. Which brings us full circle. The Eagles are stuck right now. Stuck without an elite quarterback and stuck without a clear path toward getting one.

The 2008 Eagles went 9-6-1. They needed tremendous luck to get into the playoffs. On the final day of the year, I was a nervous wreck. I switched between CHI-HOU and OAK-TB, praying the outcomes would be the ones the Eagles needed. The 9-6 Bears took a 10-0 lead on the 7-8 Texans, which sent me into panic mode. But QB Matt Schaub played well and led Houston to a 31-24 win. The Tampa game was even scarier. The 4-11 Raiders, on the road no less, took a 14-7 lead into halftime. Then Jeff Garcia and Cadillac Williams got going and Tampa took a 24-14 lead in the early 4th quarter. Ugh. My friend Matt had to talk me off the ledge a few times in that game. Oakland came back with a vengeance and went on a 17-0 run. PBR for everyone!!!

Turned out, Chip Kelly did not share my view that Foles might have just been starting to come around when Foles suffered that broken collarbone, a year and a day ago. Kelly felt strongly enough about it to send Foles and the Eagles' 2016 second-round pick to the Rams for Bradford last March. Now, seven games into the 2015 season, it seems a decent chunk of the fan base, and some media folk, wouldn't mind moving on yet again.

As you can see, the Eagles are facing the easiest slate in terms on overall winning percentage, though Detroit (1-7) really drags down the group. As it stands currently, just two of their remaining opponents (Arizona and New England) have winning records. The Giants appear to have the most difficult schedule, with New England (7-0), Carolina (6-0) and Minnesota (5-2) still remaining. The Cowboys still have the Panthers, Packers (6-1) and Jets (4-3) to deal with. Washington will face a pair of currently-undefeated teams in the next three weeks along with a Saints team that has won three straight to get back to .500.

After receiving a new contract this past offseason, Eagles outside linebacker Connor Barwin is not living up to the standards he set for himself last season, and the pass rush is suffering because of it. After finishing with 14.5 sacks, 47 tackles and two forced fumbles last season, Barwin has just two sacks so far this season, and is on pace for 4.5 sacks and 34 tackles, both dramatic drops.
