You might not believe this based on recent history, but the Philadelphia Eagles actually had a good defense for most of this season. Heading into Week 10, the Eagles ranked ninth in yards per play allowed and seventh in points per play allowed. Football Outsiders ranked the Eagles defense as the sixth best unit in the league. Pro Football Focus ranked the defense fourth overall. The Eagles were tied for the most takeaways in the NFL this season with 20.
Philadelphia's defense hasn't been the same since getting destroyed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11, however. They allowed 45 points in that game before allowing another 45 to the Lions on Thanksgiving. And now here's a story that makes the Eagles' defensive collapse even more depressing:
Told a story from #Bucs GM Jason Licht on Jameis Winston: Headsets went out Sun. on 1st 3 drives, he called plays based on personnel. 2 TDs

So, the Buccaneers didn't even have the usual ability of their coach and their quarterback being able to communicate before the snap ... and they still killed the Eagles. Winston is obviously talented and was the No. 1 overall pick for a reason, but still! He's a rookie. And he dominated the Eagles defense even though he was at a disadvantage.
Awful.
