Eagles vs. Giants 2015: Game Predictions

It's Eagles-Giants game day. Who are you taking to win?

The Eagles have a huge game tonight at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia against the New York Giants. It's a battle between two NFC East teams seeking first place in the division.

It's a little hard to believe the Eagles are in position to move into first place with a win considering how poorly they've played so far this season. Getting to 3-3 with a win over the Giants would do much to erase the memories of a slow 1-3 start.

The good news is that the Eagles seem to be trending in the right direction after a big blowout home win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. Philadelphia's offense finally got on track, albeit against a terrible Saints defense. The offensive line played well, Sam Bradford showed improvement despite two red zone interceptions, and the run game finally came alive for once. It's possible that game could have served as a turning point for Philadelphia's offense.

The bad news is that the Giants' defense won't be so vulnerable. New York's secondary isn't anything special, especially with the loss of starting cornerback Prince Amukamara, but the G-Men rank near the top of the NFL when it comes to stopping the run. Philadelphia's offense struggles when the run game doesn't get going so this could be a big issue. Making matters worse is that Ryan Mathews, who has easily been the Eagles' most efficient running back this season, suffered a groin injury during practice and is questionable to play.

With low expectations for the run game, it's really up to Bradford to step up and carry this team through the air once again. This game is a big test for Bradford. It's a must-win matchup for the Eagles and Bradford needs to deliver. He needs to prove he can be a legitimate franchise quarterback option by winning a key game like this one.

On defense, the Eagles will have their hands full with a Giants pass attack that ranks No. 6 overall by Football Outsiders. Eli Manning is getting rid of the ball quickly so the Eagles won't have a lot of time to sack him. Star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is questionable to play, but the Eagles are expecting to see him in action. Philadelphia's defense has been the strength of the team so far this season. The team could use another big performance from this unit.

This is definitely a winnable game for the Eagles. The Birds have home field advantage and the Linc will be rocking. Chip Kelly has had the Giants' number so far during his brief NFL career. The G-Men can be a tricky team at times, however. It seems like they always win games they have no business winning, such as last week when the 49ers dropped two interceptions and Manning failed to get called for a blatantly obvious intentional grounding penalty. So with that in mind, I just can't pick the Eagles win yet until I see the offense perform with more consistency. Last week's win over the Saints won't mean much if the Eagles can't build on their performance. It's up to them to do just that here on Monday night.
