Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will officially debut on Monday Night Football during Eagles-Giants game

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . . .

The trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now officially set to debut on Oct. 19 during ESPN's broadcast of the Philadelphia Eagles versus New York Giants game on Monday Night Football. Speculation of this possibility first emerged a few days ago, but now Lucasfilm has confirmed the rumors:

Here's more information via a press release from ESPN:

Lucasfilm announced today that the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will debut on ESPN’s Monday Night Football on Monday, October 19, during halftime of the National Football League (NFL) game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia. The game starts at 5:15 p.m. PDT/8:15 p.m. EDT.  The Spanish language version of the trailer will air on ESPN Deportes simultaneously.

To commence the countdown for the trailer launch, today Lucasfilm released the Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster worldwide. Following the trailer launch, tickets to the highly anticipated cinematic event will be on sale everywhere movie tickets are sold.

In conjunction with the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer debut, the Walt Disney Company is providing unprecedented company-wide on-air and social support (#TheForceAwakens) as well as tying in events and special activities for the day of the trailer release.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in U.S. theaters on December 18.

Sounds pretty cool. It also makes me wonder if this rumor from Reddit is going to turn out to be true:

This Monday Disney is releasing the full trailer for The Force Awakens after the first quarter of your game. The whole night from graphics and scoreboard are Star Wars themed. The intro to the game gets an opening crawl detailing your hated rivalry.

Seriously it's the coolest thing Monday Night Football has ever done.

Oh and one more thing.

The trailer will play on the screen at Lincoln Financial so that those in attendance don't miss out!

At the very least, the trailer will definitely be debuted.
