Handing out 10 awards from the Eagles-Jaguars game - Philly.com
Zach Ertz had three receptions. All three were 25+ yards. You wouldn't think of a guy like Ertz to be a player who can stretch the defense, but that's exactly what he can do. Last season the Eagles set a new NFL record with 99 plays of 20+ yards, or roughly six per game. It's kind of remarkable that the Eagles were able to get six plays of 20+ yards, considering how bad Nick Foles was for most of the day, in addition to the fact that LeSean McCoy didn't have any.
Nick Foles survives a train wreck - Daily News
At some point, we might get a sense of what halftime was like today in the Eagles’ locker room at Lincoln Financial Field. It is only a few minutes, enough time to catch your breath and use the restroom and maybe tweak one or two things. But only one or two. What must it have been like for those few minutes? What was it like for Nick Foles, who had been godawful? And for the offensive line, missing Evan Mathis (knee) and Allen Barbre (ankle) and barely hanging on? And for Chip Kelly, whose team was trailing the Jacksonville Jaguars in the home-opener by 17-0, and was booed off the field at the intermission?
Sunday Night Reflections - Iggles Blitz
The Eagles beat the Jaguars in a sloppy affair. Chip Kelly won’t be thrilled with a lot of what he saw, but he will be happy with the toughness that his team showed. You don’t always learn a lot about your team when things are going well. You find out a lot when things don’t go well and the team is tested. Nick Foles played poorly in the 1st half. There was some speculation from fans and the media about pulling him. Chip said the coaches never considered that, which is what I expected. You have to let the young player work his way through the issues. The good news in this case is that Foles got better in the 2nd half. There are times when a young player can struggle for multiple games before getting back on track.
After Rocky Start, Nick Foles Comes Through - Birds 24/7
One thing we are learning about Nick Foles: when he is off, he is off in a big way. A quarterback known for his accuracy and decision-making early in his career was tentative and routinely off the mark for much of Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. He rounded into form late, helping the Eagles pull out a 34-17 win. He ended 27-of-45 for 322 yards with two touchdown passes, an interception and a pair of lost fumbles.
10 observations from Eagles-Jaguars - CSN Philly
1. What a remarkable turnaround by the Eagles’ defense, giving up 14 points in the game’s first eight minutes and then holding the Jaguars to just one field goal the rest of the way (see story). Weird things always happen in Week 1, and when things don’t go the way they’ve been drawn up you have to stay mentally tough and just battle through it, and the defense did exactly that. They finally got their legs in the second half, the coverage improved, pass pressure picked up dramatically, the linebackers kept batting balls down, and the Jaguars had no answer. Against better teams and better quarterbacks, the Eagles will need a far more consistent effort, but the second half was certainly something to build on.
