Dion Jordan Trade Rumors: Dolphins regret not making deal with Eagles?

Hey, it's another Dion Jordan trade rumor.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It feels like it's been forever since we've had a Dion Jordan trade rumor that involves the Philadelphia Eagles, hasn't it? Last place we left off was where the former Oregon Ducks pass rusher was reportedly targeted by his former head coach Chip Kelly during the 2014 offseason. The Eagles reportedly tried to trade outside linebacker Brandon Graham and a second round pick in exchange for Jordan. Miami, who traded up and spent the No. 3 overall pick on Jordan in the 2013 NFL Draft, apparently wanted nothing less than a first round pick.

It's apparent a deal didn't work out. According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins really had no interest in trading Jordan. Not exactly a surprise.

Not long after Dennis Hickey became general manager of the Miami Dolphins he got a phone call from the Philadelphia Eagles. They were interested in making a trade for Dion Jordan.

The Dolphins were not interested.

It was a short conversation and that was that. Reports that the Dolphins were actively shopping Jordan (and others) were not correct. But one team -- the Eagles -- were indeed interested in the third overall selection of the 2013 draft.

Salguero wonders now, in light of Jordan's second four-game suspension, if Miami regrets not trading Jordan when they had the chance.

You think the Dolphins wish they could have a do-over on this opportunity?

If they had known then what they know now about Jordan, I'm thinking that phone call with the Eagles might have gone a lot longer. And it might have led to more phone calls. And a trade.

That's because right now Dion Jordan -- who has tested once for banned amphetemines and once for so-called street drugs since March -- is serving what will eventually amount to a six-game suspension. The suspension is costing him $1,653,358.50. But it is also costing him his reputation such as it is.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out moving forward. Maybe Miami still isn't ready to give up on him despite their disappointments. Maybe they are willing to move on now for a price that costs less than it would have before. If that's the case, perhaps Philadelphia could take advantage of a buy-low situation. Or maybe Philadelphia has been turned off by Jordan's issues and aren't as interested as they were before.

In any case, it's probably something to keep an eye on in the 2015 NFL offseason.
