Philadelphia Eagles depth chart released (Preseason Week 1 edition)

Find the Philadelphia Eagles first 2014 depth chart below.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

In preparation for their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles have released their very first 2014 depth chart. Exciting!

Before we get too carried away, allow me to remind you NFL teams are required to do this. This is very unofficial. Keep in mind Chip Kelly's depth chart is "written in sand", meaning that things can easily change. There are still four preseason games to go through before training camp battles and roster bubbles are finalized. Don't read into this too much. Still, it's fun to take a look.

So for the first time this year, your 2014 Eagles depth chart ...

OFFENSE

WR: Riley Cooper, Jeff Maehl, Ifeanyi Momah, B.J. Cunningham, Quron Pratt

LT: Jason Peters, Andrew Gardner, Kevin Graf

LG: Evan Mathis, Matt Tobin, Michael Bamiro

C: Jason Kelce, Julian Vandervelde, David Molk

RG: Todd Herremans, Dennis Kelly, Josh Andrews, Karim Barton

RT: Allen Barbre, Lane Johnson, Donald Hawkins

TE: Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, James Casey, Emil Igwenagu, Trey Burton, Blake Annen

WR: Jeremy Maclin, Arrelious Benn, Josh Huff, Will Murphy, Kadron Boone

WR: Brad Smith, Jordan Matthews, Damaris Johnson

RB: LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, Chris Polk, Matthew Tucker, David Fluellen, Henry Josey

QB: Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley, G.J. Kinne

Quick take: There's nothing too surprising here. All of this matches what's been seen in camp. Brad Smith is still ahead of Jordan Matthews as the team's starting slot wide receiver. Andrew Gardner listed as the primary backup LT is a little interesting. He's a veteran with experience.

DEFENSE

DE: Fletcher Cox, Brandon Bair, Joe Kruger, Frances Mays

NT: Bennie Logan, Damion Square, Beau Allen, Wade Keliikipi

DE: Cedric Thornton, Vinny Curry, Taylor Hart, Alejandro Villanueva

OLB: Connor Barwin, Marcus Smith II, Travis Long, Josh Kaddu

ILB: DeMeco Ryans, Emmanuel Acho/Casey Matthews, Jake Knott

ILB: Mychal Kendricks, Najee Goode, Jason Phillips

OLB: Trent Cole, Brandon Graham, Bryan Braman

CB: Bradley Fletcher, Nolan Carroll II, Jaylen Watkins/Curtis Marsh

CB: Cary Williams, Brandon Boykin, Roc Carmichael

S: Nate Allen, Earl Wolff, Davon Morgan, Keelan Johnson

S: Malcolm Jenkins, Chris Maragos, Ed Reynolds, Daytawion Lowe

Quick take: Nothing too surprising here either. There's still a position battle for the starting safety spot next to Malcolm Jenkins. Nolan Carroll II could also steal a starting spot. First round draft pick Marcus Smith II is listed at Connor Barwin's JACK OLB position. Interesting to see that inside linebackers Emmanuel Acho and Casey Matthews are 'tied' and ahead of veteran Jason Phillips.

SPECIAL TEAMS

P: Donnie Jones

K: Alex Henery, Carey Spear

H: Donnie Jones, Mark Sanchez

PR: Darren Sproles, Damaris Johnson, Jeff Maehl, Jordan Matthews

KOR: Nolan Carroll II, Josh Huff, Darren Sproles, Damaris Johnson

LS: Jon Dorenbos, Brent Celek

Quick take: Carroll II listed as the starting kickoff returner is interesting. He's been taking reps there in practice but I wouldn't have expected him to be listed first. Sproles as the punt returner doesn't surprise me. I have to admit that I was actually a little curious to see who the backup holder would be with Jason Avant gone. (What's wrong with me?) It's Mark Sanchez.
