According to Aaron Wilson, the Philadelphia Eagles have placed wide receiver Arrelious Benn on the injured reserve list. Eliot-Shorr Parks of NJ.com reports Benn suffered a back injury.

This move was unexpected because Benn wasn't noticeably injured following the Eagles final preseason game against the New York Jets on Thursday night. Benn recorded 2 receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown in that contest.
Several reporters have expressed their surprise with this announcement.
Huh? Said he was fine after the game. RTb@RavensInsider: #Eagles placed Arrelious Benn on injured reserve, according to a source.

This will be the second straight year where Benn spends the season on the Eagles IR list. Benn was placed on the IR list in 2013 after suffering an ACL injury in training camp.
The Eagles originally acquired Benn in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in early 2013.
UPDATE - 3:26
It turns out Benn was placed on the short-term injured reserve list. What does this mean? Allow Sam Lynch to explain:
Short Term IR is NOT THE SAME THING as IR-Designated to Return. Short Term IR means the player will be cut when healthy and can't re-sign.

@JoshCahan @BrandonGowton It means the player and team disagree about the severity of the injury and can't reach an injury settlement.
— Sam Lynch (@shlynch) August 29, 2014
@JoshCahan @BrandonGowton So they let him sit on IR and earn his salary to see how long it takes him to be cleared medically.

More details to come.
