Michael Vick to start for New York Jets against Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles will face former quarterback Michael Vick in the team's preseason finale against the New York Jets.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

According to New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback will start against his former team in the preseason finale on Thursday night, August 28. Vick, who was recently beat out by second year Geno Smith in the team's quarterback competition, won't play for long, however.

Vick signed with the Jets earlier this offseason after it was clear he wouldn't be returning to Philadelphia. Despite claiming he didn't want to return to the Eagles as a backup, he (oddly) seems content in his role with the Jets.

Vick's tenure with the Eagles was... well, interesting. There were highs and lows. I wrote a Vick tribute of sorts shortly after he signed with New York. Give it a read.

It was announced yesterday that former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will not be playing on Thursday night. That's a shame because a Vick (Jets) versus Sanchez (Eagles) match-up would have been a little funny to see. Instead, second year quarterback Matt Barkley gets the start for the Eagles.

The game will take place in Philadelphia and it probably won't be very crowded due to the fact that 1) it's preseason, and 2) none of the starters will even be playing.

But since we're here, I'll ask anyway: what kind of reaction do you think Vick will get? Cheers? Boos? Mixed? I'm expecting cheers for the most part. Vick's time in Philadelphia was far from perfect but he was tough and always gave his best effort - sometimes to the point where it was detrimental to his health and the team.
