Here's an update on the Philadelphia Eagles injury situation after over twenty days of training camp practice and three preseason games.
Did Practice
RB Chris Polk (hamstring)
Polk returned to practice for the first time since Monday, July 28th. After practice, Polk noted that he had a Grade II hamstring strain. He also said he can still feel the injury when he makes cuts. Polk is expected to play in the Eagles final preseason game on Thursday night.
Polk's roster spot may be in jeopardy with missed time and strong performances from his replacements. The Eagles have an interesting running back battle going on.
Eagles head coach Chip Kelly noted that he doesn't feel Polk is a candidate for the short-term injured list.
WR Jeremy Maclin (knee)
Maclin practiced despite a knee injury scare during the Eagles-Steelers game.
RB LeSean McCoy (thumb)
McCoy left the Eagles-Steelers game early with a thumb injury and did not return. He did practice on Saturday, however.
CB Cary Williams (hamstring)
Williams sat out of the Eagles-Steelers game. He returned to practice on Saturday.
CB Brandon Boykin (hamstring)
Boykin was a bit of a surprise inactive for the Eagles-Steelers game. He returned to practice on Saturday.
Did not practice
WR Josh Huff (shoulder)
Prior to practice, Eagles coach Chip Kelly said he doesn't think Huff is a candidate for the injured reserve list and/or short-term injured reserve list at this time. "I don't think so in terms of where his progress is," Kelly said, before also adding that deciding Huff's status isn't a decision that needs to be made right now.
After practice, Huff said his shoulder is feeling better. He added that he would like to play Thursday but the decision is up to the trainers.
WR Arrelious Benn (concussion)
Benn suffered a concussion in the Eagles-Steelers game. He has to go through the NFL's mandatory concussion protocol before he can return to the field.
OLB Connor Barwin (?)
Barwin was reportedly seen wearing a knee sleeve. Perhaps he's still recovering from the Eagles-Steelers game on Thursday night.
S Malcolm Jenkins (?)
Perhaps he's still recovering from the Eagles-Steelers game on Thursday night.
C Julian Vandervelde (back)
Out of practice since Monday, July 28th. Had back surgery on August 9th.
The 14 players that were cut
---
The Eagles are still fortunate to not have had any season-ending injuries to this point*. At this date last year the team had already lost wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, linebacker Jason Phillips, wide receiver Arrelious Benn, and pass rusher Phillip Hunt to ACL injuries.
