Eagles release RB David Fluellen [UPDATE]

UDFA out of Toledo had only 6 carries in the pre-season

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Spor

A day after acquiring RB Kenjon Barner, the Eagles cleared up some of the log jam at running back by releasing David Fluellen. An undrafted rookie out of Toldeo where he was an two time All-MAC selection, Fluellen was in competition with Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey for a roster spot before the team added Barner late last night. Fluellen had six carries for 25 yards in the Eagles pre-season opener against the Bears, but missed the following week's game against the Patriots with a calf injury.

Could another transaction be on the horizon? Considering that yesterday the team released LB Jason Phillips, then filled his roster spot that night by trading for Barner, this move could also be to make room for another late addition. Like the Phillips release, the timing is a bit strange, as rosters do not have to be cut down from 90 to 75 until Tuesday at 4pm EST. We'll keep you updated if and when anything more happens.

UPDATE - It turns out the Eagles haven't released Fluellen after all. Instead, they've traded him to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for rookie kicker Cody Parkey. More details here.
