For those of you who enjoy tracking former Eagles, BGN is more than happy to provide you with updates. This week's news includes a pair of familiar names signing deals, a former quarterback being named a coach for a CFL team and Asante Samuel getting some interest on the free agent market. Here's what's going on in the world of former Eagles:
- Two former Eagles running backs are now Houston Texans. Yes, Houston actually has interest in former Eagles, as oppose to the other way around for once. Running backs Ronnie Brown and William Powell signed deals with Houston on Monday following a tryout that also included former Rutgers back Brian Leonard. Brown was with the Eagles in 2011 and is most remembered for the backwards pass against the 49ers, which launched San Francisco's success and deflated Philadelphia's positive energy. Brown played the last two seasons with the Chargers. Powell was claimed off of waivers last offseason and lasted two days in Philadelphia. He was waived due to a failed physical and spent the entire season out of the NFL.
- Former Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia has been named the quarterbacks coach for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. Garcia had two stints with the Eagles but was most successful in 2006 when he led the team to the playoffs in Donovan McNabb's absence. He has not appeared in an NFL game since his second stint with the Eagles in 2009. He played in the CFL for Calgary Stampeders from 1994-1998.
- The Jets reached out to former Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel last week, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta. Samuel played the last two seasons with the Falcons but was released this offseason. Samuel played for the Eagles from 2008-2011 and went to three Pro Bowls while with Philadelphia. He is a three-time All Pro selection and had 23 interceptions in four seasons with the Eagles. Mehta reports that Samuel is unlikely to sign with the Jets.
- Oh, and then there's this:
Dolphins are holding a tryout for the back up Qb position. Good thing I've been training. I'll be heading down to showcase my talents.psyche
