The Philadelphia Eagles finished their sixth training camp practice on Friday and there are still no major injuries to report. There are a few minor ones to note, however.
S Earl Wolff - As noted earlier, Wolff was fully dressed in pads but did not participate in team drills on Thursday. Chip Kelly spoke before practice and had the following to say regarding Wolff: "He was a little sore but he should go today. I don't know [what the injury was], I didn't even ask. He's going today so it wasn't even a concern." Despite Kelly's assertion, Wolff did NOT participate in team drills yet again. Wolff told a reporter that he didn't feel ready to practice following warmups. Veteran Nate Allen took first team safety reps.
WR Riley Cooper - Cooper was seen walking into the team's facility with a walking boot. Chip Kelly was asked about this situation during Kelly's press conference he replied with the following: "He's got a foot injury. It's just a preventative thing. He'll be better in a couple days." Cooper took some repetitions on the JUGS machine after practice. Cooper hasn't been practicing since Monday, July 28th.
WR Jeff Maehl - Filling in during Cooper's absence was Maehl. It was discovered during practice, however, that Maehl also was strolling around in a walking boot. Maehl talked after practice and noted that he expects to be back soon. He said he's dealing with an ankle issue that occurred back in OTAs and flared up recently. Maehl also took some repetitions on the JUGS machine. This was the first day Maehl missed practice.
WR Jeremy Maclin - Maclin was in full pads and entered practice as a full participant. He seemed to be held out of team drills later on though some time after he made rough contact with cornerback Cary Williams in a WR/CB one-on-one drill. Maclin was seen getting his legs stretched out by a trainer at one point. This seemed precautionary if anything. Nothing to suggest it was major.
With Maclin, Cooper, and Maehl all missing time the Eagles first string receivers were... Arrelious Benn, Ifeanyi Momah, and Brad Smith.
RB Chris Polk - Hamstring. Has been held out of practice since Monday, July 28th. It seems like the combination of Matthew Tucker, Henry Josey, and David Fluellen are splitting time in Polk's absence.
C Julian Vandervelde - Back. Has been held out of practice since Monday, July 28th. David Molk is taking Vandervelde's backup center reps.
ILB Jake Knott - Hamstring. First day he's been held out of practice.
NT Bennie Logan - Logan returned to practice on Wednesday but he's not 100% recovered from a hamstring injury that occurred on Saturday, July 26th. Logan is slowly being eased back into practice. Damion Square and Beau Allen have been splitting first team reps at nose tackle with Logan.
The Eagles are fortunate to not have had any major injuries to this point*. At this date last year the team had already lost wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and linebacker Jason Phillips to ACL injuries.
The Eagles don't practice on Saturday, August 2nd so players will have the chance to rest up and possibly return by the team's next practice at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, August 3rd.
So far, so good.
