Chip, Chip, Chip - Iggles Blitz
I have written about the Eagles in one form or another since 2003. That is 10 seasons of Andy Reid and one of Chip Kelly. Oddly, it feels like I have written as many stories about Kelly as I ever did about Reid. Big Red was a terrific coach, but Chip is something completely different. Is visionary too strong a word? Kelly has impacted the game of football at the high school, college and pro levels. I’m not saying he belongs in the same breath as Paul Brown, Bill Walsh or Clark Shaughnessy. They became legends because their ideas have stood the test of time. We’re still living in the moment with Kelly and his impact on the game.
Eagles Training Camp Preview: Cornerbacks - Birds 24/7
The best bet for the Eagles' defense going into 2014 is that this unit will return 10 of 11 starters from a year ago - the only exception being new safety Malcolm Jenkins. But if you want a position battle to watch on that side of the ball, it's at cornerback. Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher were the starters last year, but the team signed Carroll from the Dolphins in the offseason. The 27-year-old started 12 games in Miami last year and 10 more in 2012. He has adequate size, plays with great effort and only missed seven tackles the past two seasons, per Pro Football Focus.
Foles' next challenge: Go from good to great - Inquirer
There is no longer any question that Nick Foles is Chip Kelly's quarterback this season. As Foles enters his third training camp with the Eagles, the coach said that Foles must work on the "intricacies" that can take a quarterback "from good to great." The "good to great" ascension can be difficult - a best-selling business book is devoted to the concept - and Foles will attempt it as he follows his record-breaking 2013 with a season that could determine his future with the Eagles.
Eagles' Bill Davis looks for improvement on defense - Inquirer
A year later, Davis appears to have quelled some of the initial fears that were compounded by a slow start last season. He had known that he was unlikely to get another opportunity to be a coordinator had he struck out a third time.
NFL Trade Value, Part 1 - Grantland
There seem to be two schools of thought on Foles. The first is that he was a prospect of moderate renown heading into the pros who managed to hit the jackpot, having learned under Andy Reid and now Chip Kelly. He’s parlayed this into a role in which he basically can’t fail, needing only to count and execute simple reads before making safe throws to open receivers, who do most of the work for Foles after the catch. The second school is actually located inside of a Wawa in South Philly. It holds that Foles’s numbers are so incredible that you cannot possibly doubt for a single second that he’s one of the premier young quarterbacks in football and, with two years to go on a four-year, $2.8 million contract, one of the best trade chips in the game.
An Update on What All 32 Starting Quarterbacks Are Doing (SPOILER: Nick Foles Is Kickboxing) - Grantland
Nick Foles has been spending the offseason doing cardio kickboxing at a Philly gym ("Just crazy stuff. It’s funny, it’s a lot of women in the class, but it’s honestly very very hard.") and says his mom "can still kick [his] butt in anything," which probably means that the Eagles should sign Foles’s mom.
Women in Nick Foles' life keep him humble - CSN Philly
It was just a day or two after the Eagles lost to the Saints in Nick Foles’ first career playoff game. After going non-stop since late July, Foles was finally back home in Austin, ready for some rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. His body ached, his mind was exhausted, and he just wanted to shut down. Then, before the sun even rose, his mom said it was time to go to the gym.
The Calm Before Camp Fun - PE.com
The message is very clear on the sign outside the back door at the NovaCare Complex: FIELDS CLOSED. The stage, then, is set for the start of 2014 Training Camp on Saturday ...
Only Tony Dungy is turning Michael Sam into a distraction - SB Nation
Tony Dungy thinks Michael Sam is a distraction. Maybe we should stop asking football coaches about distractions.
The Fine 15, Pre-Camp Edition - Peter King, The MMQB
8. Philadelphia. Chip Kelly, with a year to study. That’s dangerous. Also think Nick Foles wasn’t a fluke.
