Philadelphia Eagles re-sign Arrelious Benn

Well, that didn't take long.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

After being released by the Philadelphia Eagles last Friday (May 16th), Arrelious Benn has returned just a few days later. The Eagles have officially re-signed Benn to a new contract.

In the wake of Benn's release last week, several reporters noted that it was highly possible Benn would return to the team at a lower cost. That seems to be exactly what happened here as Benn essentially took a small pay cut in order to come back.

Benn rejoins a crowded wide receiver picture in Philadelphia. The 25-year-old's return gives the Eagles a total of 14 wide receivers on their roster. The team will likely only keep five or six receivers on the final 53 man roster, so Benn will need to stay healthy and prove he can play well this summer in order to secure a roster spot.

Benn was originally acquired from the Buccaneers in a trade last offseason. He missed the entire 2013 season with an ACL injury and has been working to get back on the field ever since. BGN has been following Benn's progress in our exclusive "On the Mend" series.
