According to NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt, Montana linebacker Jordan Tripp is scheduled to meet with the Eagles for a pre-draft visit. Tripp is a player whom the Eagles have reportedly been showing a lot of interest in. Via Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com:
Jordan Tripp, an outside linebacker from Montana, held his Pro-Day on Tuesday. Tripp held his combine numbers in the 40-yard dash during his workout, running close to a 4.67 again -- which was good for 9th best at the combine. In attendance to watch? Anthony Patch, the Eagles Director of College Scouting.
This isn't the first time the Eagles have shown interest in Tripp. Howie Roseman, Chip Kelly and Tom Gamble all met with Tripp at the NFL Combine -- not once, but twice, a source has told NJ.com.
Tripp, a 23-year old redshirt senior, is listed at 6-3, 234 pounds. In 40 games played at Montana, Tripp started 25 and recorded 235 total tackles, 9 sacks, 24 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 6 passes defensed, 7 fumble recoveries, and 5 forced fumbles. Tripp also contributed heavily on special teams.
Tripp's fit with the Eagles seems to be in a Connor Barwin-type role. He's not a dynamic pass rushing force off the edge, but he can drop into coverage and set the edge against the run. Tripp could be a backup to Barwin and play special teams until he earns the opportunity to start. Here's a CBS scouting report on Tripp. They currently project him as a third round pick.
Quickly steps up in run support, slipping past would-be blockers to meet backs in the hole. Tough. Willing to sacrifice his body to take on the double-team and will attempt to build a pile to jam things up for his teammates to make the easy play.
Good vision and recognition in coverage. Balanced and fluid when dropping back, presenting a surprisingly tough matchup for running backs and tight ends. Helped himself with a solid week of practice at the Senior Bowl.
One thing that Tripp surely doesn't lack is confidence. Take a look at this quote:
“I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I believe that I’m the most versatile linebacker in this draft,” Tripp told FOXSports.com in a telephone interview on Tuesday. “I believe I can run and cover better than any linebacker in this draft.”
