Todd McShay 2014 NFL Mock Draft: Eagles Take Cody Latimer

Check out our 2014 Eagles mock draft central for more opinions on who could be the #22 pick in May.

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay recently released his latest 2014 NFL mock draft (In$ider). Similar to Mel Kiper's "Grade: A" mock draft, in this version McShay bases his picks on who he thinks each team should take as opposed to who he thinks each team will take. With that said, let's see who McShay thinks the Eagles should take at No. 22 overall.

22. Philadelphia Eagles: Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana

This is a bit of a reach based on where I have Latimer ranked on my board -- 34th overall -- but the Eagles need a receiver and I'm a big fan of Latimer's game. He has very good size, toughness and instincts in addition to good straight-line speed, strong run-after-catch ability and a big catching radius. He also has reliable hands -- in the five game tapes I watched of his, he didn't drop a single pass. I think he could be a very good fit in Chip Kelly's offense.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, it's seeming like Latimer will be drafted higher than some may have thought. He will be one of the 30 players to attend the 2014 NFL draft in person.

I don't agree that the Eagles need to reach for a wide receiver. They're not so desperate at that position where they need to add a new body at all costs. However, I do wonder if Latimer might be a really good fit in Chip Kelly's offense. Latimer is athletic (spider graph). He put up more bench press repetitions at the combine than any other receiver, and we all know Kelly likes his WRs to be strong blockers. Latimer also has experience in playing in a really fast-paced offense during his time at Indiana. It's worth noting the Eagles brought in Latimer for an official pre-draft visit.

Here's a recap of all the 2014 NFL draft mocks that McShay has released so far. As you can see, McShay's only ever mocked a cornerback or wide receiver to the Eagles.
