Eagles offensive lineman Evan Mathis is a man of many hats. Don't take my word for it. Just take a glance at his Twitter profile. "Handegg extraordinaire. Decorated horse racing jockey. Wielder of Mjölnir. Best Rapper Alive. The People's OG. Sit-Down Comedian." You get the idea.
But one of those hats is not the one of a player who holds out due to contract disputes. Earlier this offseason, it was reported the Eagles were listening to offers for Mathis because he wanted a raise. Earlier this week, Paul Domowitch reported that Mathis would not be attending voluntary workouts, which made it seem like Mathis may have been planning to stage a hold out. However, it was all just a harmless prank, and Mathis was never planning to not attend. (That sly fox.)
Mathis confirmed he does not plan to hold out in an interview with CSN Philly on Thursday. The Eagles' Pro Bowl left guard said it himself.
"I think with those contract question, you haven’t heard anything from myself, you haven’t heard anything from [agent Drew] Rosenhaus, the Eagles," the All-Pro left guard told CSN’s Derrick Gunn on Thursday. "For that type of matter I think it’s best that anything stays in house, just be professional about it.
"If I did ask for a new contract, I’m not going to tell [the media] I want a new contract. How are you going to get me a new contact? Seriously though, for all that type of stuff, the best approach would be to keep it in house.
Mathis did say he would talk about contract disputes with the media under one condition, however:
"If I’m going to answer any contract questions I’d prefer to do it from the comfort of my driveway, while I’m doing a Richard Simmonds-type workout," Mathis said. "Maybe some sit-ups and some curls or something."
Mathis was obviously joking here (...or was he? No, he was). But one thing he was not joking about is his environmental awareness. Check out how Mathis arrived to work:
