Alex Henery has been signed to a 5 year, $15.5M contract extension through 2018 with $6M guaranteed, an exclusive source tells BGN.
Prior to the 2013 season, Henery was one of the more accurate kickers in the league.
Re-signing Henery to a long term contract clearly indicates the Eagles feel his 2013 season was an outlier.
In 2011, Henery was 5th in the league in field goal percentage at 88.9%.
Last year, however, Henery dropped to 22nd in the league at 82.1%.
Furthermore, Henery struggled at kickoffs, his distance notably dropping from 2011 and 2012.
Other contract extensions by kickers this year include the Cowboys giving Dan Bailey a 7 years, $22.5M and the Seahawks giving Steven Hauschka 3 years, $9.15M.
Originally a 4th round pick in the 2011 draft, Henery is the 14th most accurate kicker in the NFL from 2011-2013, and 5th among active kickers.
Long snapper Jon Dorenbos was reached for comment: "Alex is a great kicker and a team leader, he'll be making clutch kicks here for the next decade."
