A report from Eliot Shorr-Parks emerged yesterday stating that the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to have interest in free agent safety Mike Mitchell. Another report later in the day, this time from Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, confirmed what ESP originally reported. It's clear the Eagles have some interest level in Mitchell. But just how serious is it?

According to Person, the Eagles' interest level in Mitchell seems significant. Person is reporting that both the Eagles and Redskins are the top two teams showing the most interest. Person also notes that Mitchell still remains a top priority for the Panthers to re-sign. It wouldn't be surprising to see Mitchell want to return to Carolina given his success there last year, but the overwhelming factor in these free agent decisions is the money.
Mitchell would fill a need as one of the starting safeties on the Eagles' defense. There would still potentially be another starting spot open for the Eagles to fill via either free agency or the 2014 NFL Draft.
