NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock recently released an updated list of his position rankings for the 2014 NFL Draft. Mayock ranked the top 5 players at each position. Today we'll look at his favorite safeties. Here's who Mayock listed:
Rank | Safety | HT | WT |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Calvin Pryor, Louisville | 5-11 | 207 |
2 | Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Alabama | 6-1 | 208 |
3 | Jimmie Ward, Northern Illinois | 5-11 | 193 |
4 | Deone Bucannon, Washingon State | 6-1 | 211 |
5 | Lamarcus Joyner, Florida State | 5-8 | 184 |
A few changes have been made to Mayock's rankings since the end of the 2014 NFL Combine last week. Both changes involved the smaller safeties of in the top 5. Jimmie Ward moved up one spot from 4 to 3 and Lamarcus Joyner dropped from 3 to 5.
The names that stand out the most are Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Deone Bucannon. Both seem to have the ideal size Chip Kelly covets. Bucannon also "checks the box" of being one of those players who performed well against Kelly when he was still coaching the Ducks. Calvin Pryor, often mocked to the Eagles, is ranked at the top of the class.
Depending on what happens in free agency, the Eagles could still need to address the safety position in the draft. Assuming Patrick Chung gets cut this offseason, the Eagles will have anywhere from 3 to 4 safety positions to fill. That includes the two starting jobs, depending on the progression of Earl Wolff.
So which one of these draft prospects is your favorite fit for the Eagles?
