The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially released talented cornerback Darrelle Revis on Wednesday afternoon. He's now free to sign with any team. A number of reports have already linked Revis to New England, but nothing is official yet. There will surely be a number of teams interested in his services. In fact, the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to be one of those teams, according to a report from Tom Curren of CSN New England.
Source tells me the Eagles are expected to be among the teams in mix for UFA Darrelle Revis.

If you're been reading BGN recently, you'll already know this isn't the first time Revis has been linked to the Eagles. Prior to the start of free agency on Tuesday, a number of media members suggested the Eagles as a favorite to land the talented playmaker. Included in that group was ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, who noted both the Eagles and Patriots are the teams to watch. Here's what I wrote about Revis on Tuesday:
The Eagles could certainly upgrade upon their CBs. I've maintained that the Eagles will likely sit tight when it comes to cornerback, aside from adding depth in free agency and a prospect through the draft. But if there's a clear upgrade to be made, such as signing Revis, it's hard to see the Eagles turning down that opportunity. Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher proved to be effective starters last year, but the Eagles are hardly tied to them from a financial perspective.
The downfalls to signing Revis involve money and age. Revis turns 29 in July. Bringing in older players to big deals doesn't seem to fit with the Eagles like to do. But then again, that 's exactly what the Eagles did with Nnamdi Asomugha. And Revis is way better. He could be worth the exception.
As everyone is well aware, the Eagles have yet to make a big splash in free agency this offseason. With the market gradually drying up, there aren't a lot of options left. It's possible the Eagles aren't looking for that big splash. But if they do make a big move, Revis could be the one who's worth the splurge.
Stay tuned for more Revis madness.
